Privacy Policy

Last updated July 16, 2026

1. What we collect

  • Account info from our identity provider, Clerk: your name, email, and profile picture.
  • Profile details you choose to provide: school, department, level, graduation year, goals, and study preferences.
  • Content you create: notes, calendar events, quiz attempts and answers, uploaded documents, study room activity, and friendships.
  • AI Tutor activity: your chat messages, any images or PDFs you upload to the tutor, and the tutor's replies.
  • Usage data: token counts used to enforce the AI Tutor's rolling usage limit.
  • Payment records for paid plans and credit packs: the plan or pack, amount, currency, and a transaction reference from our payment processors. Your card and bank details are handled by the processors and never touch our servers.
  • Notification tokens: if you enable notifications, the device or browser push token needed to deliver them.

2. How we use it

We use this data to operate the features you use directly — your dashboard, notes, calendar, documents, practice questions, and study rooms — and to run the AI Tutor.

When you use an AI feature, the content needed for that request — your message, recent conversation history for context, and any images or documents you attach — is sent to the AI provider that serves it: Anthropic (Claude) and DeepSeek for tutoring, quiz generation, and grading, and Google (Gemini) for reading images and documents. Each provider processes it solely to generate the response, under its own terms. We'll update this policy if the set of providers changes.

3. Where it's stored

Your account and content are stored in Convex (our database and file storage provider). Authentication and sessions are handled by Clerk. Depending on where these providers run their infrastructure, your data may be processed outside your home country.

4. Retention and deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account at any time from Settings → Account. That immediately and permanently deletes your profile, notes, calendar events, quiz history, documents (including uploaded files), study room data, friendships, and every AI Tutor thread, message, and attachment tied to your account.

5. Sharing

We don't sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers we use to run the Service — Clerk (authentication), Convex and Supabase (data storage), Anthropic, DeepSeek and Google (AI processing), Flutterwave and Apple (payments), and Amazon Web Services (email) — each receiving only what its role requires, or when required by law.

6. Cookies and analytics

We use functional cookies from Clerk and Convex to keep you signed in, and Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage of the Service (page views and feature usage, not the content of your notes or chats). We don't use advertising trackers.

7. Children's privacy

BrainDrill is intended for students old enough to manage their own account (13+) and isn't directed at young children. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

8. Your choices

You can review and edit most of your data directly in the app, and delete your account at any time as described above. For anything else, email us (see below).

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service evolves. We'll update the date above when we do.
